LOS ANGELES -- Giants first baseman Brandon Belt was held out of Tuesday's lineup because of a stomach virus. In retrospect, manager Bruce Bochy said, Belt probably should have been held out Monday, too.

"He was pretty washed out," Bochy said.

Belt took IV fluids in order to play on Monday and did it again shortly after arriving at the ballpark Tuesday. He said he wasn't sure where the virus came from.

"I thought I'd get better today but it got worse," Belt said. "I have no energy. I don't know what this is."

Belt was 0 for 3 against Clayton Kershaw on Monday, but was red-hot coming into the season. He had a .410 spring training average with 8 homers and 19 RBIs.

"It's a shame, really," Bochy said. "He was coming off a great spring."

Belt may be available to pinch-hit Tuesday. Joaquin Arias started in his place at first base.
