GILROY -- One man was killed and another man was wounded in a shooting Wednesday night in what so far is a mysterious attack, police said.

Officers were called about 8:55 p.m. to the 7300 block of Chestnut Street for reports of a shooting, and one patrol officer got to the scene in under a minute to find the two wounded men, according to a Gilroy police news release.

One of the victims, a 30-year-old Gilroy man, was taken to the hospital where doctors pronounced him dead. The second victim, a 37-year-old Gilroy resident, was taken to the hospital with critical injuries but is expected to survive.

Neither man's identity has been released by authorities.

A motive and suspect information were not immediately available. Police say they are "evaluating a variety of leads."
