SAN JOSE -- A 76-year-old man with early signs of dementia who went missing Sunday evening was found safe at a local community center, police said Tuesday.

Alfonso Lopez, who was last seen at a friend's house in the area of Story and White roads in East San Jose around 5 p.m. Sunday, was located today at 10:40 a.m. at a Sacred Heart Community Service center on South First Street, according to Officer Albert Morales

Someone recognized Lopez and notified police, Morales said.

In an e-mail statement, police and the Lopez family thanked the community for their help in locating him.
