Foothill baseball wins Easter tourney title

  • The improving Foothill High baseball team upended Bellarmine Prep-San Jose 3-1 in the championship game of the Cunningham Easter Classic on April 6. TJ Friedl, Cody Shields and Dylan Isquirdo each had two hits for the Falcons, who improved to 6-6 overall. Eric Crispell was the winning pitcher. The Falcons routed San Lorenzo Valley 10-1 in pool play on April 5. The Falcons also bested College Park 5-2 on April 3 as Ryan Anderson had a two-run homer in the first inning.

    Cowboys runner-up at Livermore Stampede

  • The Livermore softball team had an impressive showing at the Livermore Stampede, advancing to the championship game before falling to 4-2 to Archbishop Mitty-San Jose, ranked No. 6 in the state by Cal-Hi Sports, on April 6. Freshman Hannah Bennett and junior Kristin Paulazo each had two hits and an RBI for the Cowboys, who finished the Stampede with an 8-4 overall record.

    Amador Valley softball tops Righetti

  • The highly regarded Amador Valley softball team beat Righetti-Santa Maria 3-0 in the consolation semifinals of the Michelle Carew Classic in Anaheim on April 5. The Dons' Johanna Grauer, the 2012 East Bay Softball Player of the Year, tossed a one-hitter with nine strikeouts and no walks in Amador's 9-1 win over Oxnard in the consolation quarterfinals, Grauer fired a two-hitter and Samantha Salustri was 3 for 4 with two RBIs and a run scored.

    Monte Vista roars into third place in tourney

  • The Monte Vista softball team took fourth place at the Livermore Stampede, falling 4-3 against Whitney in the third-place game on April 6 after losing 3-0 to Livermore in the semifinals. The Mustangs beat Granada 6-3 and Alhambra 3-0 in pool play on April 5, as sophomore Mackenzie Murphy was the winning pitcher in both games. The Mustangs' Sarah Weber, Lindsay Rood and Kristen Clark each had an RBI against the Matadors.

  • Samantha Salustri, Amador Valley softball -- Salustri was 3 for 4 with two RBI and a run scored in the Dons' win over Oxnard in the Michelle Carew Classic.

  • Casey Soltis, Granada baseball -- Soltis was 2 for 3 with two runs scored and a walk as the Matadors stayed unbeaten with an 11-2 win over Arroyo on April 3 in the semifinals of the Alhambra Easter Classic

  • Jonathan Freshman, Monte Vista baseball -- The junior allowed two hits and struck out six in six strong innings of the Mustangs' 9-2 win over San Lorenzo Valley on April 3.
