The Streets of Brentwood is undergoing its first major construction project to expand parking and bring new retailers to the shopping center.
Construction kicked off last month, starting with lighting improvements in the parking lot. General Manager Kristen Weidemann said the shopping center replaced the original 17-foot light posts with 25-foot posts, creating a safer and brighter parking area. Work is ongoing to add another 60 spaces to the parking lot and build a one-way, north-south road that will let cars travel directly through the center of the shopping center. The original design allowed cars to travel only around the perimeter of the shopping center.
Starbucks will move to a temporary location until early 2014, when a new store will be built to house the coffee retailer. Weidemann said the mall's management staff will move out of its off-site office and onto the mall property. The shopping center will also welcome new tenants over the next few months and make improvements to the children's play area.
The $250,000 construction project is the first major makeover for the 350,000-square-foot shopping center, which opened in 2008. Construction will be completed by Memorial Day, when The Streets of Brentwood hosts a Blues Brews & BBQ celebration. The shopping center is on Sand Creek Road in the East Bay community Brentwood.
