ORINDA -- A man who walked into an Orinda grocery store Wednesday night looking for help after being shot miles away in Richmond is refusing to cooperate with authorities about what happened, police said.
The man walked into a Safeway Store at 2 Camino Sobrante at about 8:15 p.m. with a gunshot wound, police said. The shooting occurred earlier in the area of Valley View Road and Allison Lane near the Richmond city limit, though police said they did not know exactly when it happened.
The man, who is expected to recover, may have been involved in a gunbattle with another vehicle and also has an extensive criminal history, according to Richmond police Detective Nicole Abetkov said.
It is not known why the man drove himself to the Orinda Safeway, police said.
