OAKLAND -- Fire crews extinguished a smoky structure fire in a Foothill Boulevard commercial building that housed a legal marijuana co-op and hydroponics shop on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The fire, which broke out about 3 p.m., burned for more than an hour at the International Indoor Garden Inc., which occupies the top floor of a two-story commercial building at 5812/5814 Foothill Blvd., a fire official said.

No arrests had been made Thursday afternoon in connection with the fire and there was no indication that the fire was arson, police said.

It was not immediately known what sparked the blaze, although PG&E workers were at the building Thursday afternoon investigating possible faulty wiring, police said.

Police said that as long as the operator's license is valid, the roughly 300 plants in the building are legal.

No injuries were reported.
