SAN LORENZO -- A male juvenile was struck and killed by a train during the Thursday evening commute, an Alameda County Sheriff's spokesman confirmed.

Alameda County Sheriff's Deputy April Luckett confirmed that the male juvenile, whose identity has not been released, was with two other people along the tracks near Lewelling Boulevard and Via Granada.

Luckett said the three were playing "chicken" with an Amtrak Capitol Corridor train at the time of the collision.

"The other two that were with the juvenile are pretty shaken up," Luckett said.

Several Capitol Corridor trains were delayed and rerouted around the scene Thursday evening. No one else was injured.

An Amtrak spokesperson said that the fatality was tragic but also preventable.

"While these events are always tragic, they are avoidable if people would simply not trespass," the spokesperson said. "Trains cannot stop short."
