Sir Paul McCartney highlights the lineup for the 2013 Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival. The other headliners for this three-day event, set for Aug. 9-11 at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, are the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Nine Inch Nails.

The incredibly deep bill, which also includes McCartney's son, singer-songwriter James McCartney, was released on Tuesday by Berkeley-based promoters Another Planet Presents.

Three-day tickets, priced from $235-$545, go on sale at noon Thursday through www.sfoutsidelands.com. No word on when, or if, single-day tickets will be made available.

As in past years, the Outside Lands lineup represents an incredibly diverse array of music. It ranges from the classiest of classic rock (McCartney) to true country music royalty (Willie Nelson). In between, fans will find hip-hop (Jurassic 5), pop-rock (Hall & Oates), soul (D'Angelo), New Orleans funk (Trombone Shorty), blues (Gary Clark Jr.) and many other genres.

Reflecting current trends, the festival is heavy with both indie-music and electronic dance music (EDM). This year's festival brings such top indie-music acts as Phoenix, Vampire Weekend and Band of Horses. EDM fans can look forward to hearing A-Trak, Zedd and Pretty Lights.

This will be the sixth annual Outside Lands. The festival debuted in 2008 and has quickly risen to become one of the nation's top music events, thanks to lineups that have previously included such top-name acts as Phish, Metallica, Stevie Wonder, Muse, Arcade Fire, Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Pearl Jam and Radiohead. The 2012 festival sold out two weeks in advance.

The advance "Eager Beaver" tickets went on sale a few weeks back and have sold out.
