UC Berkeley is eliminating 650 parking spaces for faculty, staff and visitors on the west side of campus near downtown to make way for new buildings, making existing parking more competitive. The university and the city have no plans to create new spaces.

Here's a list of the disappearing spaces:

March 1, 2013: 320 spaces permanently removed at University Hall at Oxford Street and Allston Way to make way for new Berkeley Art Museum.

March 1, 2013: 100 spaces gone at MLK Student Union Parking lot under Zellerbach Hall on Bancroft Way until 2015 as university works on new buildings at Lower Sproul Plaza.

August 2013: 230 spaces will be permanently removed at Tang Center, 2222 Bancroft Way, as university builds new Cal Aquatics center.
