Premiere coming to Danse Lumiere
The premiere of "Secrets on the Way," based on the poetry of Nobel Prize-winner Tomas Transtromer, is being prepared by Kathryn Roszak's Danse Lumiere for performances at 8 p.m. April 27 and 2 p.m. April 28 in the new Osher Studio at 2055 Center St.
Roszak reports that Danse Lumiere is working closely with Linda Rugg, chairwoman of the Scandinavian Department at UC Berkeley, on the production.

Cal Day returns with events for whole family
Cal Day, the annual open house at UC Berkeley, will have more than 300 free, public events for all ages and interests from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. April 20. Events will be on the central campus, as well as the UC Botanical Garden, Lawrence Hall of Science and Space Sciences Laboratory in nearby Strawberry Canyon.
"Touch a meteorite, dig like an archaeologist, explore a musical instrument, sit-in on a lecture with one of Cal's leading lights, tune in to Taiko drummers, and check out Cal's victory cannon. Or consult with the bug doctor, listen to Olympic ice skater and children's book author Kristi Yamaguchi, tour research labs and residence halls, learn about Mayan astronomy or just enjoy an afternoon concert at Memorial Glade."

Get prepared at citywide emergency exercise
"Don't get scared -- get prepared!" is the slogan of the free citywide emergency preparedness exercise being held by the Berkeley CERT program from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 27. "Spend an hour or two with your neighborhood group, or just a few minutes practicing a bit of preparedness in your own home," organizers say.

Film series returns with animation screenings
The free "Super Cinema" film series at the Berkeley Public Library returns with films at 3 p.m. Fridays in the 3rd floor Community Meeting Room at the Central Library, 2090 Kittredge, featuring a different monthly theme. April's theme is Animation Adults Love and the film on April 19 will be the 2008 film "Waltz with Bashir." On April 26 the "Fantastic Mr. Fox" (2009) will be screened.
Plant Sale and Celebration at Edible Schoolyard
The annual Plant Sale at the Edible Schoolyard Berkeley will have a full day of festivities from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 11 at 1781 Rose St.
Activities will include tours of the program's garden and kitchen, free workshops, children's activities, live music and food, along with plants for sale, including tomatoes, vegetables, fruit trees and berries, herbs, perennials and annual flowers. Wine auction to benefit French school
A wine auction at the Claremont Hotel is set for May 4 to benefit Ecole Bilingue de Berkeley, a French immersion school for preschoolers through eighth grade, with proceeds going for tuition assistance, technology purchases and teacher training. The Wine Auction Soiree of the East Bay includes rare bottles of wine and wine-themed food and travel packages. The two featured merchants, among others, are Silver Oak and Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant.
The event will have a silent auction during a two-hour cocktail party followed by a live auction during a gourmet dinner with wine pairings.
