LAFAYETTE -- One person is in critical condition after they were ejected from their Jeep Wrangler when it rolled over and caught fire during rush hour Thursday afternoon, California Highway Patrol said.

The accident occurred just before 3:30 p.m. on eastbound Highway 24 near the Pleasant Hill Road off-ramp. The accident blocked multiple lanes and traffic alerts were sent out to drivers to expect serious delays.

The person, who has not been identified, was rushed to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek and was reported to have suffered a collapsed lung and major internal injuries, lacerations and fractures, CHP said.

The road was cleared at 4:17 p.m.
