HAYWARD -- Police are investigating the city's second homicide of the year after a 26-year-old man was found shot in the driveway of a home in a residential area Saturday.
Officers responded at 9:54 p.m. after receiving reports of a single gunshot that had been fired at a home on Franklin Avenue between Culp Avenue and Harder Road, said Sgt. Eric Melendez.
When police arrived at the scene they found a man in the driveway of the home.
The man, who police said lived in Hayward, was transported to Eden Medical Center in critical condition, and died at 9:33 a.m. Sunday, Melendez said.
The victim's name is not being released pending notification of his next of kin.
Although the victim lived in Hayward, Melendez said he did not live in the neighborhood where he was found shot.
Police did not release any information about a possible suspect or a motive. They are also not saying where he was shot or if more than one suspect was involved in the shooting.
The victim's death marked the second homicide in Hayward this year.
Darren Hampton, 26, of Oakland, died after being shot Jan. 17, at Lord Tennyson Apartments, in the 27000 block of Sleepy Hollow Avenue.
Hampton was hospitalized for about a week after the shooting, but his health deteriorated and he was placed on life support, and died Jan. 25.
As of Sunday, no arrest had been made in either death.
Anyone with information about the fatal shootings is asked to call police at 510-293-7000.
