CASTRO VALLEY -- Two boys suffered minor injuries when they were hit by a car after stepping into a Castro Valley crosswalk on Thursday, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers were dispatched just after 11:15 a.m. to the intersection of Castro Valley Boulevard and Park Way for a report of two people that had been struck by a vehicle, according to Officer D. Hammerson.

The driver of a black Ford Crown Victoria stopped at a stop sign to turn right from Park Way onto Castro Valley Boulevard and then pulled out and struck the juveniles who had just stepped into the crosswalk.

One of the boys sustained a minor ankle injury and the other suffered a cut to his hand, Hammerson said. One of the juveniles was released to his parents while the other was taken to Eden Medical Center.

The crash was an accident, Hammerson said, and no charges will be filed.
