EAST BAY -- YMCAs in the East Bay and across the country are celebrating Healthy Kids Day on Saturday with free events aimed at getting young people interested in physical activity.
Special activities will be going on at several Ys in the area.
The Oakland Y, at 2350 Broadway, will offer a youth triathlon. To register, go to ymcaeastbay.org/easytoenroll/login.aspx.
In Fremont, a 5K Fun Run/Walk will benefit the Fremont/Newark YMCA to provide financial assistance to children and families who otherwise could not afford to participate in the Y's programs. Registration is at 7:30 a.m. at DeVry University, 6600 Dumbarton Circle.
San Leandro will celebrate Healthy Kids Day beginning at 1 p.m. with free events including a challenge course, at Washington Manor Park, 14900 Zelma St.
Healthy Kids Day is part of the YMCA's goal of promoting good health and exercise habits. More than 1,900 Ys across the country are taking part.
