Wesley Smith, superintendent of the Morgan Hill Unified School District, has been named the next executive director of the Association of California School Administrators.

Smith, who has led the Morgan Hill district since 2009, has held several offices in the association. He previously was superintendent of the Cascade Union Elementary School District south of Redding.

This year he was named superintendent of the year for ACSA Region 8, which includes Santa Clara County.

Smith will continue in Morgan Hill through June 30. He will begin his duties with ACSA, which is based in Sacramento, on July 1. The Morgan Hill School Board on Tuesday will discuss how to begin the search for a new superintendent.

According to an ACSA statement, Smith "is credited for his communication skills and ability to coalesce a wide variety of groups and individuals in support of schools and students."

Smith said in a letter to parents that "the past 3½ years in the Morgan Hill Unified School District have been the most fulfilling of my career."
