Police released a sketch of a man suspected of trying to kidnap a Pittsburg child Friday afternoon.

PITTSBURG -- Police are searching for a man who attempted to kidnap a 2-year-old girl Friday afternoon.

At 1:45 p.m., officers were called to the 300 block of Snow Flake Way after the man grabbed the girl from her yard, where her mother was watching her play, and attempted to flee on foot, Pittsburg police Lt. Ron Raman said.

The mother of the girl began yelling and threatening the man that she would call police, which scared him enough to drop the girl into the bushes along the sidewalk before he continued to run, Raman said.

Raman added that the little girl is traumatized but did not suffer any physical injuries.

Police are awaiting a set of dogs specialized in tracking before they conduct yet another search Friday night.

Several officers are also speaking with neighbors of the girl and nearby businesses to pin down where the man may have gone or if anyone has seen him.

Raman said the man, who has no relation to the girl and is not known in the area, is described as white, in his 30s, and was last seen wearing a green-colored shirt and blue jeans.

Anyone with information on the suspect should call the Pittsburg Police Department at 925-427-7369. Should anyone see the suspect, they should call 9-1-1.
