PITTSBURG -- Police on Saturday continued to search for an unidentified man who tried to kidnap a 2-year-old girl from a yard Friday afternoon.

Pittsburg police Lt. Ron Raman said officers are continuing to canvass residential and commercial neighborhoods after the man -- who is unknown to police and the girl's family -- grabbed the tot in a yard, where her mother was watching her play, police said.

The child's mother yelled and threatened that she would call police, which scared him enough to drop the girl in the bushes along the sidewalk before he ran away, Raman said.

Raman said the girl is traumatized but was not injured physically.

At 1:45 p.m., officers were called to the 300 block of Snow Flake Way and worked into the night with police dogs to try and locate the man.

According to a flyer released by the Pittsburg Police Department, the suspect is a white adult male, 30 to 35 years old, approximately 5 feet 9 inches tall and about 160 pounds. He was last seen wearing a light green t-shirt and blue jeans.

Police said they are also looking for a vehicle that may possibly be associated with the attempted abduction. The vehicle is described as a maroon or burgundy Ford Explorer or a similar vehicle.

Anyone with information on the suspect should call Pittsburg police at 925-427-7369 or 911.
