PINOLE -- Police are asking for the public's help in capturing two men they believe robbed a cash-checking store after one of them told a cashier that their objective was to secure a loan.

Police responded to a 3:18 p.m. silent alarm at the Check 'n Go in the 1500 block of Fitzgerald Drive on Monday, Cmdr. Pete Janke said. By the time officers arrived, the two men had escaped, he said.

Witnesses told police that the two men entered the store together and that one of them asked about taking out a loan, then pulled out a silver handgun, pointed it at the female cashier and told her to "open the drawer."

The second man then took all the cash, and with his partner, headed north on foot, Janke said.

The suspect with the handgun was described as black, between 26 and 30 years old, approximately 5 foot, 7 inches tall and 180 pounds with short black hair, Janke said. He was wearing a gray sweatshirt and bluejeans.

The other man was described as black, also between 26 and 30 years old, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall and 190 pounds, Janke said. He had short black hair and was wearing a black T-shirt and bluejeans.
