A Hercules woman suspected of burglary quietly surrendered to police last week after allowing them to search her vehicle, where evidence of other crimes was found, officials said.
Police served an arrest warrant in connection with a recent burglary to 37-year-old Stacy Cook at her residence in the 200 block of Sparrow Drive on Friday, Officer Connie Van Putten said. Cook surrendered without incident, and during the arrest, was asked by an officer if her car could be checked.
Cook agreed, and that decision added to her woes. During the vehicle check, police found mail belonging to others as well as a white crystalline substance believed to be an illicit drug, Van Putten said.
A search warrant for Cook's residence was obtained as a result and additional evidence implicating her in fraudulent crimes was found, Van Putten said.
Cook is expected to be charged at least with possession of stolen property and fraud when the case is presented to the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office later this week.
