Outsourcing companies, many of them based in India, along with a few well-known companies such as Microsoft, dominate the list of top-10 firms sponsoring the most foreign workers on temporary H-1B visas, according to numbers released this week by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services.
Companies sought thousands of new workers on the three-year visas for the 2013 fiscal year, which began in the fall. Here are the 10 companies approved for the most visas, according to an analysis by this newspaper that combined several divisions or affiliates of the same companies:
1. Cognizant Technology Solutions (7,101 H-1B visas approved)
2. Infosys (6,717)
3. Wipro (3,929)
4. Tata Consultancy Services (3,133)
5. Microsoft (1,918)
6. HCL (1,446)
7. Larsen & Toubro (1,353)
8. IBM (1,010)
9. Satyam Computer Services (911)
10. Oracle (801)
