PITTSBURG -- No one was injured despite heavy smoke and flames at a house fire late Wednesday, a fire spokesman said.

Crews responded to the 100 block of Covington Drive around 6:40 p.m. and initially, firefighters were told someone inside the home may have needed rescuing, said Battalion Chief Lewis Broschard of the Contra Costa Fire Protection District.

However, after crews searched the home, no one was found inside. The fire was brought under control a short time later.

Broschard said the fire, which started in the garage, did not spread but crews did have to gut the home's attic of its insulation to prevent the possibility of a second fire breaking out.

No one was injured, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
