TRACY -- A Dublin man is behind bars and facing a $388,000 bail after police found hundreds of vials of the drug known as bath salts at a business where he is employed.
Detectives arrested 40-year-old Dublin man Iberhim Bechwati after they served a search warrant Thursday at Hi Times Tobacco, located at 3310 N. Tracy Boulevard as well as at his home in Dublin, according to a press release.
Police said during a search of the store, which had been monitored by detectives for several months on suspicion of peddling narcotics, officers found over 600 vials of bath salts, a designer drug containing a cocktail of stimulant-like chemicals with a high risk for overdose.
The street value for the confiscated drugs is estimated at $34,000.
Also, roughly $40,000 in cash, a gun, other illegal weapons (metal knuckles, batons, butterfly knives) and anabolic steroids were confiscated, police added.
Bechwati was booked into San Joaquin County Jail on charges including possession of a controlled substance for sale, distribution of controlled substances, possession of controlled substance while armed with a firearm, commission of a felony while armed, possession of metal knuckles for sale, possession of a billy club for sale and possession of a switchblade knife for sale
Bechwati is scheduled to be arraigned Monday in Manteca.
