LAFAYETTE -- A 51-year-old Pittsburg man died in a head-on collision on Highway 24 early Friday morning, and police say the crash was caused by a suspected drunken driver who was traveling on the wrong side of the highway.

Alvaro Santos Cruz was killed when the driver of a silver Toyota Avalon, identified as Annelise McKay, 20, of Brentwood, collided head-on with his red Geo Metro as he drove eastbound near St. Stevens Road, CHP Officer Jonathan Fransen said.

McKay, who was driving westbound, reportedly crossed over onto the wrong side of the highway, hitting Cruz and causing him to sideswipe a Buick Century.

Cruz was pronounced dead at the scene, Fransen said. McKay was taken to John Muir Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries, and the driver of the Buick was driven to the hospital by his wife to be treated for back pain.

According to Fransen, McKay was later arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.

On a Facebook page that appears to be McKay's, a post written Jan. 10 reads: "If someone is belligerently drunk with their keys in hand, don't let them drive home. ... Put your pride aside to save a life."

A friend comments that she hopes McKay will remember her own advice. McKay responds, "Lol yeah I'll totally remember this when I'm drunk. lol."
