A Brentwood police officer was injured Tuesday afternoon while running down a shoplifting suspect at a clothing store, police said.

The officer, who was not identified, suffered a "moderate injury" to his leg after chasing down Temu Jabari Curry, 34, of Brentwood, Sgt. Walter O'Grodnick said. Curry was in the Kohl's located at 5511 Lone Tree Way about 3 p.m. Tuesday ¿when police say he tried to take something from the store.

When officers tried to arrest him, Curry allegedly resisted and fled the area on foot, Brentwood police Sgt. Walter O'Grodnick said. The foot chase lasted only a brief time before an officer chased him down.

The officer is expected to recover, O'Grodnick said.

Police did not reveal the nature of the injury or how it occurred.

Curry was charged with felony battery on a police officer, resisting arrest and petty theft, O'Grodnick said. He was taken to County Jail in Martinez where he was being held in lieu of $245,000 bail.
