An Antioch man suffered a gunshot wound to the leg in a Wednesday morning shooting, and the suspect led police on a chase through the city and out to Stockton, police said.
The shooting happened around 9:48 a.m. in the 4500 block of Pampas Circle, near Jack London Elementary School, police said. As police arrived, the suspect nearly hit a patrol car, then refused police attempts to pull him over, Antioch police Lt. Tammany Brooks said.
The victim, a 25-year-old man, was taken by ambulance to a hospital and is expected to recover, Brooks said. Antioch police did not have a description of the suspect, but Brooks said the shooter and his victim knew each other and that the shooting does not appear to be random.
The suspected shooter led police on a chase down Deer Valley Road and eventually onto Highway 4 and through Brentwood and Discovery Bay, Brooks said. The chase reached Stockton, but Antioch police called off the pursuit in Brentwood for safety reasons.
Antioch police later said it was believed the suspect got away somewhere in Stockton.
Calls to the San Joaquin County Sheriff's Office and to Stockton police were not returned immediately.
