MARTINEZ -- A big rig carrying a tractor hoe crashed on Interstate 680 shortly after noon Wednesday, forcing at least one lane to be shut down and causing a mild traffic backup for a brief time, the California Highway Patrol said.

The wreck happened at 12:40 p.m. in the southbound direction at the South Marina Road offramp, causing part of the tractor to end up on the freeway and chipping parts of the road, the CHP said.

The cleanup required that the two left lanes be closed for about 1 1/2 hours, the CHP said. The lanes were opened about 2:20 p.m., the CHP said.
