PLEASANT HILL -- A convenience store clerk avoided injury after confronting a man suspected of taking cigarettes early Thursday morning, police said.
The robbery happened about 3:30 a.m. at a 7-Eleven at 2396 Pleasant Hill Road and involved only cigarettes, police said. A man in his 30s wearing all black clothing and a mask entered the store and began taking cigarettes from behind the cash register while the clerk was in the back of the store, police said.
The clerk returned to the register and confronted the man, who then displayed a knife, police said. The clerk ran of the store and called police, and the suspect also ran out and headed south, police said.
By the time police arrived, the suspect was gone. A subsequent search did not find him.
