FREMONT -- Prosecutors have charged a woman with robbery and possession of stolen property in connection with an April 29 robbery at a city ATM.

About 8:52 p.m. that night, a suspect -- later identified as 20-year-old Kamaljit Ghag -- approached a 38-year-old man as he attempted to use an ATM at the Wells Fargo on Paseo Padre Parkway, said police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.

The suspect demanded the victim's money, said she had a gun and motioned with her right hand in her right sweater pocket, Bosques said.

Ghag then took an undisclosed amount of money from the victim and fled the area.

Police said that fifteen minutes before the robbery Ghag attempted to steal an iPhone from a 47-year-old man who was walking near Liberty Street and Capitol Avenue.

Video surveillance and other evidence led to Ghag being identified as the suspect in both cases. She was arrested Wednesday in Hayward.

Officers found her with a driver's license and social security card that belonged to a 33-year-old woman. When contacted, that victim told officers her purse had been stolen two weeks before in Berkeley Bosques said.

Prosecutors charged her Thursday with felony robbery and two counts of felony possession of stolen property. She was set to be arraigned on the charges Thursday afternoon.
