ROHNERT PARK -- A man who tried to cross five lanes of traffic outside of a crosswalk was struck and killed in Rohnert Park Friday evening, police said.
Terry Gray, 54, of Point Reyes Station, was attempting to cross Rohnert Park Expressway at about 5:25 p.m., police said.
Witnesses told police that Gray suddenly appeared from the median, going north across the five westbound lanes of traffic, which caused drivers to slam on their brakes, according to police.
Gray was outside of the crosswalk when attempting to cross the street, police said.
After making it across two lanes, he was struck by a Ford Escape, police said.
The driver of the Escape immediately stopped and called 911 to report the accident. Gray, however, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
Rohnert Park Expressway, between Redwood Drive and the entrance to Sonoma Valley Bagel, at 350 Rohnert Park Expressway West, was closed for about four and a half hours during the subsequent investigation, police said.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Rohnert Park police at (707) 584-2600
