A man was arrested after firing his gun, accidentally striking his brother, outside of a bar in Santa Rosa this morning, police said.

Officers responded to a report of shots fired at The Zoo bar, at 527 Barham Ave., at about 1:50 a.m., police said.

When police arrived, they found a man suffering from a gunshot wound that went through his left calf just outside of the bar, according to police.

A witness to the shooting had her car stolen as she attempted to give aid to the gunshot victim. Her car was later found abandoned at nearby Frazier Avenue, police said.

The suspect in the shooting remained at the bar and was questioned by police, according to police.

Anthony Alfredo Martinez Jr., 27, of Santa Rosa, was intoxicated and failed to cooperate with police, and was arrested, police said.

Martinez had an empty handgun holster clipped to his belt, according to police.

An investigation discovered that Martinez had been drinking at the bar, went outside and began firing shots into the air, police said.

His brother, Marques Miles Martinez, 25, of Santa Rosa, attempted to stop his brother, but in the struggle, was struck with a bullet in the calf, according to police.

There was no intent to shoot anyone, but was a result of intoxication and reckless behavior, police said.

The gun was dropped to the ground and an unidentified person at the bar grabbed it and fled the area on foot. The gun was not recovered, police said.

Marques Martinez was transported to Memorial Hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are not considered life-threatening, according to police.

Anthony Martinez, a documented gang member, was arrested and booked into jail on suspicion of discharging a firearm with gross negligence, police said.

Anyone with additional information about the shooting is asked to call police Sgt. John Cregan at (707) 543-4016
