Candice Glover vs. Kree Harrison.
It's the "American Idol" finale that we began envisioning way back in Hollywood Week, but one that, for a while, looked like it might not happen as the judges became infatuated with the show's skinny girls.
But the voters have had their say and now Season 12's most polished, poised and technically proficient voices will be on display as Candice and Kree vie for the "Idol" crown (8 p.m. Wednesday, Fox).
Here's a look at how the finalists stack up and our prediction.
The third time apparently really is the charm. Candice, a 23-year-old from St. Helena Island, S.C., is in the final after two failed "Idol" ventures. Now, she has to be considered the favorite. Those big pipes and glory notes, after all, just can't be matched, and she has put together more "wow" moments than any other contestant. Randy Jackson called her rendition of The Cure's "Love Song" one of the greatest performances in the show's history. Then, last week she blew the roof off the joint with a rousing take on "Somewhere" from "West Side Story."
For a while there it appeared that the 22-year-old from Woodville, Texas, may have peaked too early. After dazzling the judges with a string of early performances that came off as so smooth and natural, Kree seemed to take her foot off the gas pedal (Or was it that the judges just took her for granted?). Two weeks ago she landed in the Bottom 2. But Kree rebounded last week, especially during her cover of Rascal Flatts' "Here Comes Goodbye," which she nailed with ease and grace and emotion. She's the underdog going into the final, but we've seen how "Idol" fans rally around country singers and don't underestimate the emotional oomph of her heart-wrenching back story.
Candice will bring all the power and drama she can muster and will be the one reveling in confetti at the end. We can hardly wait to hear her belt out the coronation song.
