RICHMOND -- A man shot inside his car on the Richmond Parkway last week has died from his injuries, police said Wednesday.
The victim was identified as 20-year-old Juan Madrano of Richmond. He was found shot inside his BMW on Richmond Parkway at Hilltop Drive last Friday at 3:54 p.m., police said. Richmond fire officials said he was shot above his left eye and airlifted to John Muir Medical Center.
It was not known immediately when the man succumbed to his injuries. Police said last week that the shooting may have been gang-related because of ties the victim had to the community.
The death brings the city's total homicides this year to 10. Nine are being investigated by Richmond police and BART police are investigating the remaining homicide, which occurred outside a train station in March.
Police also are continuing to search for a passenger in the BMW who also may have been shot.
"If anyone has information as to his whereabouts, we'd like to find that out, because the passenger is a victim, too," said Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov, the agency's public information officer. "The passenger will be treated only as a victim."
Anyone with information is urged to contact the Richmond Police Department at 510-620-6655 and to ask for Detective Esparza.
