OAKLAND -- A shooting has left two dead and shut down all lanes on northbound Interstate 880 near Broadway, according to the California Highway Patrol.
It is still unclear if the shooting happened on the freeway, the CHP said, but crews have shut down all lanes, including the Jackson Street on-ramp.
The incident occurred just as thousands were leaving the Oracle Arena after the Golden State Warriors' loss to the San Antonio Spurs.
Witness Andy Anderson was on his way back from the Warriors game when he pulled up to the scene, right behind an ambulance.
"We were about 10 cars back when traffic just came to a stop," he said. "We looked over and there was a body in front of a white car on the freeway."
Though Anderson said he drove by the scene just minutes after it occurred, he had no idea a shooting had happened until he took to Twitter. He assumed a pedestrian had been struck and killed.
All traffic is being diverted to Fifth Street, and those still leaving the game are encouraged to take 98th Avenue rather than the freeway.
There is no estimated time of re-opening as crews investigate the incident.
