ANTIOCH -- Police are investigating the city's fourth homicide after a man's body was found outside a large Hudson Court apartment complex Friday morning.
Police said the man, a 22-year-old Antioch resident whose name has not been released, was shot and had possibly been outside the complex for several hours before he was found.
Police were called to the 3400 block of Hudson Court at 7:57 a.m. after the man was found near a fence on the edge of the property at the Hudson Townhouse Manor apartments, Antioch police Lt. Tammany Brooks said.
A dozen residents living in nearby apartments watched Friday morning as detectives investigated the scene. The body, covered by a yellow tarp, was located near trash bins alongside a wrought-iron fence and a long driveway separating Hudson Townhouse Manor from a five-unit apartment building across the street on Fairfield Drive.
It was not known if the homicide is related to an incident earlier Friday morning, when police were dispatched to a nearby location about 1 a.m.
Resident Maria Lopez, who lives in a nearby apartment complex, said she was sleeping around 1 a.m. when she heard a pair of gunshots. Lopez said she figured the police activity Friday morning had to do with that incident, but police said it was too early to determine that.
Criminal activity is not rare in the west Antioch neighborhood, which has been plagued recently by drive-by shootings.
This is the city's fourth homicide of the year, and the second this month.
Anyone with information regarding this case should call Detective Koch with the Antioch Police Department at 925-779-6895.
