SAN JOSE -- Police on Friday said they detonated a hand grenade a woman found in her garage.
No one was injured in the explosion and police said it's unclear if the device was a live explosive.
After the woman reported the grenade around 2 p.m., the department's bomb unit went to her house in the 5300 block of Clovercrest Drive and found it with its triggering pin still in place.
Nearby residents were evacuated as the bomb unit investigated. The grenade was removed from the garage and police then blew it up.
Officers are trying to determine where the grenade came from, but added in a news release that "it was not believed to have been planted in an attempt to cause harm."
