ANTIOCH -- A man with at least two gunshot wounds led officers on a brief foot chase after a group of people opened fire on each other Tuesday afternoon, police said.

At 5:18 p.m., police received reports of shots fired in the 2200 block of L Street, according to a statement from Antioch police Sgt. Steve Bias. As officers arrived, one man was seen running from the scene.

Officers gave chase and eventually found and detained the man, who was hiding in a rear yard on Manzanita Way, Bias said. When police found him, he was suffering from at least two gunshot wounds.

The man, whose identity was not released, was transported to a hospital, and his condition was not released Tuesday evening. Police were still trying to determine why the man decided to run from them.

According to Bias, evidence at the scene suggested that there may have been two groups shooting at each other, but no suspects have yet been identified.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing. Anyone with information on the crime should contact the Antioch Police Department at 925-778-2441. You can also text a tip to 274637 (CRIMES) using key word ANTIOCH.
