Firefighters from San Jose and Milpitas worked to put out a brush fire near the border of the two cities on Wednesday evening.
The single-alarm fire was reported at around 8:16 near the intersection of Highway 237 and McCarthy Blvd. in Milpitas, said Capt. Scott Ackemann, a spokesman for the San Jose Fire Department. Firefighters arrived at the scene around 8:22. By 8:50, they had contained the fire and were mopping it up, he said.
In all, three fire engines from San Jose and two from Milpitas responded to the fire. Firefighters didn't know immediately what caused the blaze, and Ackemann didn't know how large an area it affected.
