SUNNYVALE -- A person was found dead inside a home that was engulfed by a fire early Tuesday morning, according to the Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety.
The one-alarm blaze was reported around 6 a.m. at a single-story house in the 200 block of Central Avenue, two blocks west of South Fair Oaks Avenue, Capt. Dave Pitts said.
By the time firefighters arrived, heavy flames were emanating from the home, Pitts said. After a lengthy effort, crews corralled the fire and afterward found a body in the kitchen area.
Neighbors told authorities that a woman lived at the home, but as of Tuesday a formal identification was still pending confirmation and the notification of kin.
How the person died and what caused the fire are under investigation with help from the Santa Clara County Fire Investigation Task Force. Further details were not immediately available.
