SAN FRANCISCO -- Caltrain experienced major delays and trains were diverted to other stations after a fire was reported on top of a tunnel near Paul Avenue about 3 p.m.

According to the agency's Twitter page, service was restored about 4 p.m. after fire crews extinguished the fire and gave the okay.

Caltrain advised passengers headed north that they would be taken to the Millbrae BART station, where their tickets would be honored to continue their travel.

For passengers heading south out of the city, Caltrain advised them to take a BART train to Millbrae and transfer to a train there.

Trains also stopped operating temporarily from the 4th and King Street station and the Bayshore station.
