LIVERMORE -- The body of a Mountain House man who disappeared while kayaking in Lake Del Valle was discovered last week, the East Bay Regional Park District said. Lifeguards found the body of 30-year-old Michael Perez on Thursday morning in the water about 100 feet from the west shoreline, near the Oak Point picnic area, said regional parks spokeswoman Emily Hopkins. His death is being investigated as a drowning.
Perez was kayaking with his sister on June 16 when he decided to remove his life vest, jump in the water and swim to the west shore, authorities said. As he swam back, he yelled to his sister to throw him his life vest, but he sunk beneath the surface and vanished, according to authorities.
Police sniffing dogs, helicopters, boats, lifeguards and dive crews were all involved in the initial search for Perez.
