HAYWARD -- A masked gunman robbed a liquor store over the weekend and made off with thousands of dollars in cash and a bottle of cognac, police said.

Officers were called just before 10:40 p.m. on Saturday to Stop By Market and Liquor at

21995 Mission Blvd. for a report of an armed robbery, said Sgt Mark Ormsby.

When officers arrived, a male store clerk told them a masked man armed with a handgun walked into the store, pulled out a gun and demanded cash.

The clerk complied and handed the gunman $3,000 in cash from the register, Ormsby said.

The masked gunman took the cash, grabbed a bottle of Remy Martin from the shelf and ran out of the store in an unknown direction, Ormsby said. No one was injured.

Police did not have a complete description of the suspect.

The armed robbery remained under investigation on Monday, Ormsby said.
