FREMONT -- Two burglars used a U-Haul truck to yank an ATM out of a liquor store during an early morning smash-and-grab this past weekend, police said.

Officers responded at 3:45 a.m. on Saturday to Mission Liquors at 39945 Mission Blvd. for a report of a commercial burglary, said police spokeswoman Geneva Bosques.

Officers arrived within 90 seconds but the suspects had already sped away from the scene, Bosques said.

No one was injured but the storefront sustained major damage, including broken glass.

Video surveillance revealed that one of the suspects drove a white, single-cab U-Haul pickup truck through the glass entrance to the business and stopped the truck once it hit the ATM.

The suspects then jumped out of the truck and attempted to lift the machine, but it was bolted down to the floor, police said.

The men got back in the truck and rammed the ATM a second time, jarring it loose. They then got out, picked up the ATM, placed it in the rear of the truck and drove off in an unknown direction, Bosques said.

As of Tuesday no arrests had been made but the incident remained under investigation.
