CLAYTON -- A 51-year-old motorcyclist was in critical condition Friday morning after being hit by a suspected drunken driver Thursday evening near Clayton City Hall.

The injured man, who has not been identified, suffered head trauma and broken bones, and was taken to a hospital in critical condition, Officer Allan Pike said.

Police said the female driver of a gold Toyota Corolla, 21-year-old Concord resident Jessica Mercurio, crossed over the center divide on Clayton Road just after 6 p.m. and hit the motorcycle head-on.

She is being held in lieu of $100,00 bail on suspicion of felony driving under the influence at County Jail in Martinez.

A section of Clayton Road was shut down Thursday night while police investigated the scene.
