SAN FRANCISCO -- A city firefighter was arrested Saturday for allegedly driving a fire truck under the influence and leaving the scene after crashing into a motorcyclist, police said Monday.

The San Francisco Fire Department truck was responding to an emergency with its lights and sirens activated when it hit the a motorcycle at around 11:30 p.m. at the intersection of 5th and Howard streets in the city's SOMA neighborhood, police said.

The fire truck's driver, Michael Quinn, 43, was subsequently arrested for DUI and leaving the scene of the crash, according to police.

The motorcyclist suffered nonlife threatening injuries, authorities said. Police refused to release any further details, referring questions to the fire department and the San Francisco District Attorney's Office.

A spokeswoman for the District Attorney's Office said prosecutors should receive the case from police Tuesday.
