The College of Alameda has a new leader. Eric Gravenberg, a high-ranking administrator at a sister college in Oakland, begins his role as interim president on July 15.

Before serving as vice president of student services at Oakland's Merritt College, Gravenberg held leadership positions at Sacramento State, UC Riverside, Humboldt State and Howard University, according to the announcement from the Peralta Community College District.

Gravenberg also volunteers as a mentor for high school and college students, the announcement said.

He will replace Jannett Jackson, who was appointed this spring as chancellor of the Chabot-Las Positas Community College District.
