San Jose's Aaron Gordon and Team USA claimed the FIBA under-19 world championship Sunday with an 82-68 win over Serbia in Prague, Czech Republic. The Arizona-bound Gordon had six points and six rebounds while limited by foul trouble.

Gordon averaged 12.6 points and 6.2 rebounds for the nine-game tournament, both team highs. He also shot 61.2 percent from the field, tops of any player in the event.

In the third-place game, Lithuania beat Australia 106-100, despite 20 points, 17 rebounds and three blocked shots by Saint Mary's signee Dane Pineau. Pineau averaged 11.8 points and 9.0 rebounds for the tournament.

Horse racing

Jockey Russell Baze posted his 12,000th career victory, guiding Handful of Pearls ($3.80) to a photo-finish win over Here It Tiz at the Alameda County Fair.

It was Baze's fourth win of the day and came in the last race on the fair's final day of racing. Earlier Sunday, Baze rode Alar Sultan ($4.20), Skydreamin ($4.80) and Lookout Scout ($5.40) to victories.

Baze, 54, has made 50,535 starts in his career.
