The Giants made a flurry of roster moves on Tuesday. Cole Gillespie was designated for assignment. He was 0 for 9 in his short time in the big leagues. Kensuke Tanaka had his contract purchased from Triple-A Fresno. He was hitting .330 for Fresno and has played second base and left field. He was in the Giants' spring training camp as a second baseman but made seven errors (mostly, if not all, throwing) in 92 defensive innings. Catcher Hector Sanchez was put on the disabled list with a right shoulder strain. That's the injury that has bothered Sanchez since winter ball and really has derailed his season. Pitcher Mike Kickham was recalled from Triple-A to replace Sanchez. The bullpen could certainly use the fresh arm after Monday night's 16-inning loss to the New York Mets. Also, the Giants officially announced the signing of outfielder Jeff Francoeur. It is a minor league deal and he will start in Fresno.
Tanaka goes right into the lineup and it looks like Brandon Belt only lasted a day as the No. 3 hitter. He was 0-for-8 with five strikeouts.
