CLAYTON -- Authorities have not revealed whether three separate fires that ignited within minutes of each other in a residential park Tuesday afternoon were the work of an arsonist.

Firefighters worked quickly to contain the fires in Lydia Lane Park that were reported around 5:30 p.m. The Contra Costa Fire Protection District tweeted that Clayton police had a possible suspect detained.

However, Clayton police dispatchers said they could not confirm if police had detained a suspect, nor would they confirm that arson was the cause.

The fires were contained around 6:15 p.m. Clean-up last approximately 1 hour.

It is unknown how the fires started or if any structures were threatened.
