RICHMOND -- A rollover crash Wednesday night on the Richmond Parkway claimed the lives of a couple from San Rafael, authorities said Thursday.

Police said 72-year-old Martin Gershik and his 68-year-old wife, Marlene, were headed north when their Toyota Camry drifted and crossed two lanes of traffic just south of Hensley Avenue.

The Toyota hit a curb, propelling it over the median and into southbound lanes, where it was hit by a pickup truck, police said.

Crews arrived to find the Gershiks in the car. The two were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Police are still investigating why the car crossed over two lanes into the oncoming traffic. An autopsy to determine what caused the driver to drift across the lanes was not scheduled to be performed until later Thursday at the earliest, according to a Contra Costa Coroner's deputy.
